Will Billy Gilmour be Happy Gilmour this season?

Billy Gilmour is a Chelsea wonderkid and midfield maestro in the making. The Scottish Midfielder has broken onto the scene towards the end of this season with great showings against Fulham and Manchester City.


Billy Gilmour is being touted as the next big thing by most pundits with Graeme Souness saying that he will follow Phil Foden in his path of progression, Gilmour has made Twenty-Four Appearances for Chelsea since July 2019. Of those Twenty-Four Appearances Eleven have been in the Premier League with Five being this season.



Gilmour may have made his debut under Frank Lampard in 2019 but current manager Thomas Tuchel also sees a lot of ability in the Scotsman, Tuchel Spoke to Chelsea TV about Gilmour and said that he was a fantastic player with excellent technical skills and ability.

Despite the limited minutes it is clear to see that a wider audience have come to appreciate Gilmour with Scotland Boss Steve Clarke naming him in the Scotland squad for Euro 2020, Clarke ended up selecting Gilmour for the crucial second group game against England in which he played 76 minutes. The display against England was a clear indication of the talent he possesses, and it was shown on the European Stage.


Following the conclusion of that game the news broke that Gilmour had contracted the coronavirus and was therefore out of the last group game against Croatia, Scotland Scored just one point and crashed out of Euro 2020.


Chelsea Boss Tuchel has said “He has three big problems – N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho are three big problems. They are never injured, and they perform on a level in central midfield that is not easy to compete with. This is the only thing. I have no trust issue with him. I have no problem with attitude. I can only strongly recommend the Scottish national team to nominate him because this guy trains on the highest level.”


The fact that there are three majorly talented midfielders Infront of him at Chelsea means that his future is set to be on loan with one of the three clubs that are interested in him, these clubs are Rangers, Norwich City and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Wolves links appear to have Broken down, so it is between the two other outfits


Former Player Jamie O'Hara had this to say about where Gilmour should move to on loan this season.

“Norwich or Rangers? I would say Norwich for the Premier League football.

“Premier League football is much better than four decent games a season and getting knocked out of the Champions League,” he said about the Old Firm derbies against Celtic.

Norwich Fans are excited about the move for Gilmour and multiple outlets have reported that the interest from Norwich is the largest, Gilmour is expected to complete a medical at the start of July and is set to be announced as a Norwich player (On Loan) within Seven Days after the medical takes place.


Gilmour is set to fill the hole left by Oliver Skipp in the team that amassed Ninety-Seven Points from Forty-Six Championship Games.


Skipp’s Parent club Spurs have Reportedly said that he is unavailable until a new manager is appointed and that is one reason that the club have moved to Billy Gilmour of Chelsea in the First Place. Gilmour is set to play a lot more than Five games if the move to Norwich does go through.

He is set to either play as a number ten between Todd Cantwell and new signing Milot Rashica or a Defensive Mid Infront of the back Four.



Gilmour is a perfect fit for Norwich and the style of football that boss Daniel Farke is set to play, and the experience of a relegation scrap will help Gilmour develop as a player and Tuchel will be over the moon as he is sending Gilmour to a club that has developed talents such as James Maddison and Emiliano Buendia in recent years.
